Banking sector trade unions are gearing to hold a series of protests demanding salary increments for employees in several private banks.
The Ceylon Bank Employees’ Union (CBEU) has said that employees of 19 public and private sector banks are to support the move.
Head of the CBEU, Amarapala Gamage has observed that employees in several private banks do not receive a proper salary in comparison to many banks, especially after they have faced many hardships to help the sector recover during a difficult period for the economy.
He has said that discussions between the workers and the employers to receive a salary increment for the past two years have been unsuccessful.
Therefore, Gamage says the banking sector trade unions would commence a protest campaign demanding a salary hike.
