The JVP affiliated We Are Sri Lankan organization has accused the military of trying to obstruct a protest organized by the group in Kilinochchi today.
The group has organized a protest in Kilinochchi to call on the government to help find the missing persons in the North. Similar protests have been held in Trincomalee and Vavuniya.
Speaking to The Sunday Leader, Convener of the We Are Sri Lankan, Udul Premaratne said the organizers of the protest and participants have been intimidated by members of the Sri Lanka Army from last evening.
He said that members from the armed forces had visited the houses of some of the persons planning to participate in the protest and had asked them not to attend it.
He added that one of the party activists in the North, Lalith Kumar and another member had been taken into custody by the Army this morning and were being held at the Army camp at the Depot Junction in Kilinochchi.
According to Premaratne, the Army had said that protests could not be held in Kilinochchi since the area was under Army control.
