The JVP has questioned the silence maintained by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) with regard to charges leveled against Presidential physician Dr. Eliyantha White.
Dr. White has been accused of prescribing drugs with illegal substances to national sportsmen that has now resulted in Sri Lanka cricketer Upula Tharanaga being banned for three months over doping charges by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
JVP Propaganda Secretary and parliamentarian Vijitha Herath expressed doubts over the silence maintained by the SLMC and the GMOA over the issue.
He told a press conference that the GMOA that has carried out campaigns against quacks in the medical profession has remained silent over Dr. White’s issue.
Herath said that action should, be taken against Dr. White for causing embarrassment to Sri Lankan sports personalities.
