Sigiriya the 8th Wonder of the world is highly attracted by tourists. There is no need to mention the skills and courage of Sri Lankan Artists to make the fortress which is marginalized within the thick forest a mirror of the Art. Sigiriya is the best model not only for art but the irrigation technology. Sigiriya has now turned up to be one of the main attractions of the tourists. Thousands daily visit this fortress as a result of the tourism industry. A significant growth is witnessed in the hotel industry and many sectors. The government has also mooted various programmes to improve facilities for the tourists visiting Sigiriya. Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake joined in a visit to Sigiriya to inspect the progress and also look into the problems. Expressing his views during the visit, the Deputy Minister said it was imperative to improve tourist attractive locations such as these to reach the target of 2.5 million tourist arrivals by 2016.
