An eye disease is fast spreading countrywide. As such the National Eye Hospital has called on the public to be cautious. Director of the National Eye Hospital Dr. S.A.H. Liyanage said that nearly 100 patients suffering from the disease “Viral Conjunctivity” were visiting the hospital seeking treatment. Symptoms of the disease are swollen red eyes, tearing, difficulty in seeing light and eye pain. The public are called upon to refrain from frequenting congested locations and be careful in using towels, bed sheets and handkerchiefs. Contraction of the disease can be prevented by frequently washing the hands with soap. Normalcy after the disease can be restored within three days. However the National Eye Hospital Director Dr. Liyanage has urged the public to seek medical advice if there are more symptoms of the disease.
