Hundreds of more families displaced by terrorism have been directed to their villages from welfare camps. 1066 persons of 287 families who had taken temporary shelter in the Kadiragamar and Ananda Kumaraswamy Welfare Villages have been resettled. Vallipuram and Pthukudiyirippu, their initial villages in Mullaitivu were selected for resettlement. Permission was granted for resettlement after security was consolidated with the removal of landmines. The Government is implementing programmes to develop houses and infrastructure in these villages. Many programmes are also in place to uplift the living conditions of the resettled families. The handing over of cooking utensils worth 4500 rupees to each family took place under the patronage of Minister Gunaratne Weerakoon. The required grants were provided by the Resettlement Ministry. Accordingly the number of civilians resettled so far has exceeded 254 thousand.
