Channel 4 and Drusman Report – a conspiracy against Sri Lanka: UN representative

Jun 28, 2011 11:05:36 AM - itnnews.lk

Sri Lanka’s Representative to the United Nations Dr. Palitha Kohona has clarified that the Channel 4 programme and the Darusman report was the same conspiracy network against Sri Lanka. Joining in ITN’s “ 7th Hour Programme ” he said two years have passed since the end of the war. He queried as to why this juncture was being used to telecast the video footage. One reason was that the Darusman report being released during this period. This video footage was telecast in support of the Darusman report. What he mentioned in the report is included in this video footage. In addition the Human Rights Council meeting was held during this period. Another meeting is scheduled within three months. He emphasized that there is a link to it. He claimed that many sections of the Channel 4 footage had been obtained from the Tamil Net website. The production had been made from a majority of these video sections. The background script had been provided by John Snow. The target was to show the mis-behaviour of the Sri Lankan Government and the Sri Lankan Forces. He had clearly stated that the objective of the Sri Lankan Government was to harm the Tamil civilians. This statement is baseless and beyond truth. Dr. Kohona said the Tamil community is part of Sri Lankan fraternity. A majority reside not in the North or East but in the South. A war is not a play. The war was not started by the Government. The beginning of the war was the result of the actions of a terrorist movement. As such no one can say that the Government took the initiative of waging a battle and harming the civilians. He referred to the many attempts made to hold negotiations with the terrorists but they rejected negotiations and said they could win their demands through war. Dr. Kohona emphasized that it was not the Sri Lankan Government but the LTTE which started the war. He noted that this was not displayed at any point in the Channel 4 report.

Dr. Kohona emphasized that the results of all these efforts was to achieve victory which was not possible through the war, via other avenues. If old LTTEcadres have been appointed to institutions such as Parliament and Local Bodies in countries like Australia, France and Canada they have political influence and Dr. Kohona said he thinks that their attempt was to realize victories which they could not achieve by war, through other means.
