As the Fourth of July holiday weekend approaches, deputies in Lexington County are getting some special training on use of the department's fire rescue boats used to help injured people on Lake Murray.
Sheriff James Metts says his dive team is training all day Tuesday on the lake near Bundrick Island. Metts says deputies will be removing dummies from the lake, placing them on back boards and hauling them onto rescue boats.
The boats have doors that can be lowered on one side to get people in more easily.
Metts says EMS and dive team members are regularly assigned to work on rescue boats on the lake on weekends and summer holidays.
