The Department of Emigration and Immigration has established a unit to gather intelligence information. The programme is a joint effort of the Sri Lanka Police and Interpol.
The Department of Emigration and Immigration has made arrangements to gather information on persons arriving and leaving Sri Lanka and who are accused of crimes and are facing allegations. A workshop to educate the officials concerned opened in Colombo today. They are being apprised of identifying individuals who are facing international criminal allegations. The Canadian Government has come forward to provide the required grants for this programme. Canada’s High Commissioner Bruce Levy and Additional Defence Secretary S. Hettiarachchi were present at the launch of the workshop.
