Minister for Environment Anura Priyadharshana Yapa has claimed that climatic change will be the decisive factor which will decide the existence of mankind this century.
The Minister said this regional effort will be a strong commitment. He was optimistic that the expert group gathered today will definitely come up with future directions for policy makers and technical guidance to the Senior Officials meeting on climate change to make sound recommendations to the SARRC Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change. Under these circumstances, he told the gathering that it was his great pleasure to have them in Colombo to find out remedial action to the adverse impact on climate change.
The Minister was addressing the first meeting of the Inter Governmental Expert Group on Climate change at Hotel Galadari in Colombo. The meeting which opened in Colombo today will continue until tomorrow. This conference is the first step of arraying regionally on behalf of the secure bio diversity based on the Thimpu declaration reached at the 16th SAARC Summit held in Bhutan last year. The specialist group comprises representatives of SAARC countries. The meeting will end tomorrow.
