A former Clemson University police chief has been indicted by a federal grand jury in South Carolina on a federal weapons charge.
The Greenville News reported that 64-year-old Lonnie Joe Saxon is accused of dealing guns across state lines without a license. The indictment alleges that Saxon knowingly and willingly dealt firearms beginning in 2006.
Saxon was the university's police chief from 1989 to 2002. He previously worked for the Easley Police Department and the Pickens County Sheriff's Office.
Saxon's attorney, Joe Watson, says his client's actions weren't intentional. He says Saxon enjoys trading at flea markets.
Saxon could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison if he is convicted
