TV and Broadcasting rights of cricket matches granted exclusively to state media

The Government has made allocations for the payment of the Farmer’s Pension. Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that the Government granted the nod for the payment of the Farmer’s Pension and the insurance for crop damages. The Minister said the Agriculture and Insurance Board at present implements the Farmer’s Pension Scheme and Social Security Benefit Scheme. On a proposal by the President a sum of 317.3 million rupees is to be allocated for the payment of pension to farmers until such time the new pension fund is established. Cabinet had approved to develop Hambantota as a Central Business and Industrial City. It is a proposal by the President. Accordingly the Hambantota City will be developed as a Central Business and Industrial City in parallel to the construction of the Hambantota International Harbour and the Airport. Cabinet approval was received to allocate 812 million rupees to acquire the lands required by the Urban Development Authority for implementation of the projects related to these developments. On a proposal by Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Cabinet approval was given to exclusively award TV and Radio Broadcasting Rights of International Cricket matches played in Sri Lanka or abroad to state media. To consider the provision of such broadcasting rights to private TV or Radio channels which are exclusively dedicated to sports on negotiated terms was also approved by the Cabinet.
