The Commonwealth Games Federation Evaluation Commission paid a visit to 2018 candidate city Hambantota amid high hopes for one of the most compact Commonwealth Games concept designs ever developed. They inspected the Sports Town which is due to come up in Hambantota. The delegation including Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Games Mike Hooper joined in this inspection tour. They viewed the projects that have already been completed and are under implementation. Among them were the Hambantota Harbour, the Mattala Airport, the Ranminitenna Tele Cinema Village and the Suriyawewa Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium. The representatives were briefed on these development projects by Chairman of the Hambantota District Development Committee and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa. Mr. Rajapaksa emphasized to them that the development projects were under implementation with the target of Sri Lanka securing the holding of the Commonwealth Games in 2018. It was underscored that many investments have already taken place in the private sector. Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage was present on this occasion.
