Special transport services will be operative for the annual Pichchamal Pooja in Anuradhapura and the Kataragama Esala Festival.
The Transport Ministry has made arrangements to operate special trains and buses for the convenience of devotees who will be visiting Anuradhapura for the Pichchamal Pooja and Kataragama for the Esala Festival. Several trains will run from Colombo Fort to Anuradhapura for the Pichchmal Pooja near the Ruwanweliseya. Special buses will operate on the 9th and 10th of this month. Additional compartments will be deployed on these days for the normal trains that are operative.
Meanwhile 75 buses for special services in the environs of the Kataragama Sacred City have been deployed. Special bus services are planned from all depots of the Southern, Uva and Sabaragamuwa Provinces up to Kataragama. In addition buses will also operate from Batticaloa, Ampara, Kalmunai and Akkaraipathu Depots as well as from the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu Depots. Special buses will also run from the Pettah Central Bus Stand. These will be operative from the 8th to the 15th of this month. Minister Kumara Welgama disclosed these details joining in a special observation tour of some depots to inquire into the initial arrangements with regard to additional transport services.
