Fourteen amendments will be carried out in the Mosquito Breeding Control Act.
It is being proposed to produce photographs of the mosquito breeding places as evidence in court cases with regard to such incidents. Minister Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the authorities to strictly implement the Mosquito Breeding Control Act. Accordingly 14 sections in the Act will be amended. The Cabinet approval for the amendment will be sought within the next few days. The powers of imposing a spot fine of 2000 rupees will be given to the Medical Officers of Health. Under the earlier regulations permission had to be sought from the owner of the premises in order to enter them. Under the new amendments the Medical Officers of Health, Public Heath Inspectors and micro biological Assistants will have the powers to investigate any location without permission from the owners.
