Measures are being taken to fulfill the shortage of Tamil Language Teachers existing at present. Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that priority will be given to the proficiency of Tamil language when enrolling individuals for Teacher Training Institutes.
The Minister said that the shortage of Tamil medium teachers is a serious issue. He said that applications have been called to recruit thousand teachers each for the departments of IT, mathematics, Science and English along with thousand principals. He said that despite these efforts it has been difficult to recruit Tamil medium teachers. He said that measures are being taken to enroll more Tamil medium teachers at Teacher Training Institutes to overcome this shortage.
The Minister expressed this view at the 50th Anniversary of the Nasriya Muslim Central College in Chilaw. Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, Minister Priyankara Jayaratne and Parliamentarian Victor Anthony Perera were amongst those who participated in the occasion.
