The Government is allocating more funds to strengthen the programme to improve English knowledge of University students.
The Minister of Higher Education revealed this at a programme of Leadership Training in Diyatalawa. Minister S.B. Dissanayake said that the students who enter universities with no knowledge of English will have excellent knowledge of the English language within one year. He said that for students who pass out from universities should not have any problem henceforth with regard to IT and English knowledge.
About 800 students are participating in the Leadership Training Programme being held at the Diyatalawa Army and Air Force Camps. The Ministry of Higher Education is implementing the project to develop the leadership skills in university entrants. Variety shows were held during the programme to showcase the talents of students.
One student said that this provided them an opportunity to learn how to face a challenge alone as so far their parents were always behind them.
Meanwhile an exhibition of the students who are undergoing leadership training at the Minneriya Army Infantry Training Centre was held at the premises. The students were of the view that the training programme should be continued. They expressed their gratitude to the Minister of Higher Education who has added value to the programme.
