The President has stressed the necessity to provide proper training for all employees who are being recruited for public service.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has emphasized that updated knowledge and techniques should be used in providing the training. He said this at a progress review meeting held at the Ministry of State Management and Reconstruction. The President said that Information Technology, language proficiency and attitudinal development should be addressed. There have been allegations that duties are not properly carried out on Wednesday which is the public day. The President stressed the need to carry out duties properly on this day and instructed to take necessary action after looking into the problem. Several problems created due to attitudinal shortcomings in the public service were also focused upon. There has been a steady increase in the usage of IT technology in Public Service. The President pointed out that efficiency should be improved through this. The President agreed to the request made by Minister Navin Dissanayake to obtain funds for training programmes. Ministers Navin Dissanayake, Prof. G.L. Peiris and senior public officials were amongst those who participated in the occasion.
