Jul 4, 2011 12:04:08 PM - itnnews.lk

Neluwa Priyantha, a most wanted criminal has been shot dead. It is this criminal who had served as JVP’s armed leader at Kudaoya in Uva during the fear psychosis period. Neluwa Priyantha alias Gurusinhage Priyantha was a most wanted criminal and an underworld leader of the Uva and Southern Provinces. The STF arrested him at Suriyawewa last night. Under the guise of showing where a stock of weapons had been concealed, he had made a futile attempt to open fire at the STF, thus forcing the police to open fire. As a result he died. This underworld leader had received armed training from the JVP. The STF said he had committed more than 25 murders. It included the killing of a group of persons including the Haldummulla Grama Niladari in 1989, murder of seven persons at one location in Udawalawa in 1995 and the murder of five members of the same family in 2002. Many charges had been leveled against him including abuse of women, drug peddling and others. Two warrants had been issued by the Monaragala High Court for the arrest of 45 year old Neluwa Priyantha. ASP of the STF Sylvester Wijesinghe said a cache of arms concealed by the suspect was recovered.
