Jul 4, 2011 12:05:19 PM - itnnews.lk

Minister Susil Premajayantha has given instructions to immediately suspend payment for substandard petrol. A special discussion was held at the Petroleum Ministry between the Minister and officials including Chairman of the Petroleum Corporation. The Minister gave instruction to suspend with immediate effect the payment for the 20 thousand metric tons of petrol that were imported to Sri Lanka and which is alleged to be of inferior quality. He appointed a three member inquiry Committee. Officials confirmed that they were releasing scheduled stocks from the Kolonnawa Storage Complex and the Muthurajawela Storage Facility. No problems had surfaced with regard to petrol issued to Muthurajawela. The Minister gave instructions to examine and confirm that petrol at filling stations where complaints had been received are up to required standards. Meanwhile petrol related complaints can be directed to Regional Offices in addition to the Marketing Division of the Petroleum Corporation.
