Housing dream of low income and private sector workers will become a reality

Many State Banks join in building houses through Janasevana. An agreement to provide financial assistance to the tune of 1.5 billion rupees for the Janasevana Upahara Housing Loan Programme has been signed. The inking of the agreement took place at Temple Trees under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. The Peoples Bank, the Bank of Ceylon and the NSB will be giving 300 million rupees each for the Upahara Housing Loan programme. The State Mortgage and Investment Bank and Housing Development Finance Corporation are due to give 250 million rupees each. The Regional Development Bank will give 100 million rupees to the National Housing Development Authority. Speaking on the occasion President Rajapaksa said that when granting housing loans, more attention should be directed to low income families and employees serving in the private sector. Giving his views on this occasion Minister Wimal Weerawansa said they succeeded in building more than 11,000 houses under the Janasevana Housing programme within the last few months of this year. He revealed of plans to build 25,293 houses within this year. Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna and President Secretary Lalith Weeratunga were present on this occasion.
