Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has revealed that the Government will allocate eight billion rupees to control floods in the Colombo City. The Minister said their task was not to provide food and drink and during disasters. He assured a programme to prevent disasters and minimize damages caused by disasters. Reservoirs have been launched jointly by the Defence Ministry, the Disaster Ministry and the Low Land Authority to gather water. An eight billion rupee project has been launched in this era for the safety of the Colombo City. The Minister was speaking at the National Launch of Global Assessment Report and Resilient Cities Campaign. The event was organized by the Disaster Management Ministry and the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government. It was held in Colombo. Chairmen of 20 selected Urban Councils and Mayors of three Municipal Councils participated in this occasion. They inked certificates related to the programmes. Deputy Mayor of the San Francisco local authority of the Philippines and many invitees were present.
