The Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) held a protest this afternoon against the government’s decision to increase the number of slots in local universities allocated to foreign students.
The IUSF claimed that the increase in the number of foreign students would affect the local students seeking entrance to universities.
The protest was held opposite the Fort Railway station and the protesting students charged that the government was trying to sell the local degrees to foreign students.
The students also called on the government to stop suppressing the university students when they come forward to safeguard their rights.
Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake said recently said that the government has decided to increase the intake of foreign students into local universities for several subjects.
