Parliament has today approved a supplementary allocation of Rs. 20 billion to the Defence Ministry to establish a Defence Headquarters in the country.
The government has planned to establish a new Defence Headquarters that would house the Defence Ministry and the headquarters of the three armed forces.
The government decided to establish a Defence Headquarters in Battaramulla after the current location of the Defence Ministry and the Army headquarters in Galle Face was sold to theHong Kongbased Shangri La Hotel Group.
Senior Minister for International Monetary Co-operation Dr. Sarath Amunugama has told parliament that monies from the sale of the land are being used to construct the Defence Headquarters.
