UNP Points Out Govt.’s Failure To Publish Gazettes

Jul 7, 2011 8:29:02 AM - thesundayleader.lk

UNP parliamentarian Dr. Harsha de Silva has expressed concerns over the government’s delay to publish gazette notifications under the Strategic Development Act.

He has said that the gazettes that are required to be published under the Strategic Development Act have not been issued even after the six months have lapsed since the cabinet has approved the sale of land for the hotel chain, CATIC.

He has told parliament that the sale of land to the CATIC to construct a luxury hotel was not transparent as a result.

Dr. de Silva has also referred to a statement made by Deputy Economic Development Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena that a perch of land for the project was sold at a price three times more than the valuation and alleged that millions of rupees may have gone missing after the sale if the land was sold at a higher price than the valued price.

However, Deputy Minister Abeywardena has denied claims made by Dr. de Silva and assured that there had been no underhand dealings in the land sale for the CATIC hotel chain.
