The Defence Ministry has released new jeeps to Police Stations today.
The handing over of jeeps took place at the Defence Ministry premises today, under the patronage of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. It will meet the requirements of 426 Police Stations countrywide. The grants came in the form of Indian assistance. Each vehicle is worth about 3.7 million rupees. A programme is also in place to provide trucks, bowsers, buses and motorbikes based on the needs of the respective Police Stations. Police Chief N.K. Ilangakoon and Officers in Charge of Police Stations were present at this event.
