A programme is in place to provide information technology facilities for individuals of special need.
The Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Commission is implementing the programme. The intention is to improve facilities at special schools, vocational training centres, special educational units of schools, special resource centres of universities and information technology centres of Ranaviru villages. The distribution of computers among 65 information technology centres for persons of special needs took place at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission today.
Its Director General Anusha Pelpita said that equipment worth 4.5 million rupees was being provided to 21 centres of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, about 30 schools, several vocational training centres and universities. He said this was done with the intention of enhancing the computer knowledge of the students.
Among those present was Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Padma Wettewa.
