The Pichchamal Pooja was held near the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura with the participation of hundreds of thousands of devotees.
The Pichchamal Pooja was organized on the advice of the Chief Incumbent of the Atamasthana the Ven. Pallegama Sirinivasa Thera and the Chief Incumbent of the Ruwanweli Seya the Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera. This year marked the 22nd occasion the Pooja was organized by the Shanthi Foundation under the guidance the Ven. Kotapola Amarakitthi Thera.
Members of the Maha Sangha carrying jasmine flowers in golden bowls arrived in a procession at the Wahalkada of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi from opposite the Ruwanweli Maha Seya. Thereafter the jasmine flowers were laid near the Sri Maha Bodhi. Minutes after the start of the Perahera heavy rains were experienced. However, the devotees braved the rain and participated in the Pichchamal Pooja.
