President Rajapaksa launched work on road development projects worth 6500 million rupees. The President emphasized that the development projects will not be halted whatever obstacles they had to confront.
The President said that they were given a mandate by the people when it was decided to develop the villages. Even in the Mahinda Chinthana it was enunciated that development would be taken to the village without limiting it to a particular area. He said that the foundation had been laid to provide electricity to the entire country by the years 2012 and 2013. Referring to the Diaspora, the President pointed out that they were not talking about the liberation of the country from terrorism. He said he was not aware of any human rights rather than halting the murders that were taking place daily due to a war. He said that the children had to take over the future of the country and emphasized that everyone should be dedicated to safeguarding the freedom that had been gained.
The reconstruction of the road running from Morawaka via Neluwa, Pelawatte and Matugama to Colombo was launched by the President today. The road which links the Western and Southern Provinces is 47 kilometres. Its width is about 8.2 metres. Four billion rupees will be spent on the development of this road. The Road Development Authority will carpet and develop the highway. It will be of immense benefit of cultivators of plantation crops including tea and export crops. Senior Minister Piyasena Gamage, Minister Mahinda Smarasinghe, Deputy Ministers Vijaya Dahanayake and Nirmala Kotalawal and Southern Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva were among those present at the launch of the work.
The width of the 25 kilometre Horawala-Pelawatte-Pitigala Road is 8.2 metres. The expenditure to be incurred on the development of this highway is 1478 million rupees. Assistance for this project is coming from China. /senior Minister Piyasena Gamage, MinisterMahinda Samarasinghe and Deputy Minister Nirmala Kotalawala were among the many people’s representatives present at the launch of the work. A large crowd was also there. They greeted the President with a loud applause. The President seized the opportunity to cordially converse with the people.
After the launch of work on the development projects, the President visited the Nandavana Vihare in Pelawatte and engaged in religious observances. Its Chief Incumbent, the Ven. Pitigala Sumana Thera chanted Seth Pirith and blessed the President. Children of the Sri Jinarathana Dhamma School were present. The President inquired into their well being.
