The JVP allege that opposition candidates contesting the forthcoming local government elections in the North are being threatened.
JVP Propaganda Secretary and parliamentarian Vijitha Herath says that security forces are being used by some powerful political parties to harass the opposition politicians in the North.
He said that JVP supporters have been prevented from campaigning in Tharamapuram in the Kilinochchi District by these parties.
He also pointed out that a dog belonging to a TNA candidate in the North had been killed and the dead animal’s head had been fixed on the candidate’s gate.
According to Herath, political parties affiliated to the governing party is carrying out the election campaign in an undemocratic manner.
