The need to expedite the reconstruction of the fuel pipeline network from the Harbour to Kolonnawa has been emphasized. Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal Company M.R.W. de Soysa said the laying of pipes has been paralyzed due to illegal constructions in Bloemendhal Road.The chairman pointed out that oil leaks were reported on four or five occasions in the past within a range of about 300 meters in one of the three pipelines. Action was initiated to lay new pipelines on this stretch but their main glitch was encroachers. He said many of them were living on pipelines. The property comes under the purview of the Railways Department. He said legal action was being initiated to evict these encroachers. He pointed out that plans are afoot to immediately launch the laying of pipes utilizing new technological strategies. The laying of pipes at other locations is in progress.
