Minister Basil Rajapaksa has emphasized that the Government was dedicated to uplifting civilian rights in the North and East while developing the country. The Minister said the main objective of this programme was to create the required climate to start a new life after the resettlement. The road that has been established will hereafter be linking Jaffna and Colombo and other parts of the country. This junction would also be the main junction which will lead to Jaffna. He pointed out that the value of the land of the civilians had increased with the freedom and peace enthroned in the country. He was optimistic that this area would become prosperous in the future. The Minister was speaking during resettlement of 220 families displaced as a result of terrorist activities. The families were resettled after the removal of landmines and ensuring their safety. Distribution of food among the resettled and the handing over of school gear took place in parallel to the resettlement. A scheme to supply electricity to the area was commissioned under the patronage of Minister Rajapaksa. Ministers Douglas Devananda and Dilan Perera, Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri and Jaffna Commanding Officer Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe were present.
