Minister Basil Rajapaksa has emphasized that the fertilizer subsidy will not be curtailed. He said no one should be misled by rumors.
The Minister said the fertilizer subsidy was the only subsidy in the world given continuously for 13 cultivation seasons. The President from time to time expanded this subsidy to cover other crops such as tea, rubber and coconut as well as vegetables and spices. He referred to reports which had appeared in today’s papers claiming that this fertilizer subsidy was to be curtailed. He totally denied it.
A gathering of District Media Officers was held at the Government Information Department. Speaking further Minister Rajapaksa stressed that the price of the subsidized fertilizer will not be changed even though there were price differences in all other goods.
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said it was important to understand what was needed for the country as well as the people in the march towards making Sri Lanka the “Wonder of Asia”. He told the gathering that what the people expected from them was to select programmes which would be an impetus to the economy and making the people, the administrators and the politicos aware of it.
