The prices of many essential goods have declined.
Market sources say prices of many consumer items including rice, dhal, green gram, sugar, local red onions, dried chilies and eggs have dropped to a considerable level. The Trade Ministry attributed the price declines to the flow of agri products to the market sans any obstacles, and the proper storage and distribution of goods. In parallel, prices of vegetables have also decreased considerably. The prices of country beans, pumpkin, snakegourd and bottlegourd have dropped by about 89 percent while other vegetables such as cabbages, carrot, leaks and beetroot have declined by about 60 percent.
The programme mooted by the Government to maintain economic equilibrium safeguarding both the consumer and the local businessmen was being successfully implemented. The Trade Ministry said much relief has been granted to consumers through Cooperatives and Lak Sathosa outlets.
