Glass spill closes I-77 lanes

Shattered glass has forced the S.C. Highway Patrol to close three southbound lanes on I-77 in Columbia.
A truck driver carrying glass window panes lost his load around 11 a.m., sending the glass crashing onto the highway, trooper Judd Jones said. Highway workers are trying to sweep up the glass with brooms, and the S.C. Department of Transportation is expected to bring out special equipment to help clean up the mess, he said.
The three closed lanes are near the Percival Road exit and the I-20 interchange, Jones said. One lane of traffic is being directed through an emergency lane but vehicles are backing up on the interstate, he said. – Noelle PhillipsVicinity of Interstate 77 at Percival Road
