Local music is to be acclaimed by the State. It is planned to hold a State Musical Awards Festival for the first time in the country.
The Department of Cultural Affairs and the State Music Sub Committee have agreed to hold a State Musical Awards Festival annually. It will receive the guidance of the Ministry of Cultural and Arts Affairs and the support of the Sri Lanka Arts Council. Arrangements have been finalized to hold the first Awards Festival on 26th of next month at Temple Trees under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. Musical productions related to 2009 / 2010 will be considered. These should be presented before the 30th of this month.
10 veteran artistes who had been engaged in a noble and respectable service representing all traditions in the musical field will be acclaimed and financial assistance provided, in parallel to this festival. Chairman of the State Musical Sub Committee Rohana Weerasinghe said their intention was to encourage new productions and set an example to the new generation.
