The UPFA says opposition political parties were trying to use the local government election campaign to provide information to detractors level various allegations against the country.
UPFA General Secretary and Minister Susil Premajayantha has said the main opposition United National Party (UNP) and the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) were using the local government election campaign to talk of non-existent violence in the North. He has said the opposition parties were trying to allege that only the UPFA is being allowed to carry out its election campaign in the North.
Premajayantha has observed that the election campaign in the North is calm and trouble-free and the peace that prevails in the area has created an opportunity for all political parties to freely carry out their election campaigns.
According to him, the election campaign in the North was more peaceful than the campaign in the South.
