Gervais Street block issued boil-water advisory
Jul 14, 2011 11:54:00 AM - thestate.com
Some Columbia water customers on a block of Gervais Street are being asked to boil water following a water main break.
The break in an 8-inch water line means water for even-numbered addresses on the 900 block of Gervais, between Lincoln and Park streets, could have bacterial contamination.
The water can be made safe for drinking, cooking and ice-making by boiling it for one full minute.
Restaurants should follow federal and state recommendations for boil-water situations. For information, call the county environmental health office at (803) 576-2910 or the S.C. Hospitality Association at (803) 765-9000.
The advisory comes a day after a similar warning issued for Shop Road between South Beltline Boulevard and Pineview Road and the surrounding area.
