The Youth Parliament holds positions of Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Speaker and 13 Portfolios for Ministers and 13 portfolios for Deputy Ministers. The appointments have been made to represent all regions of the country. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa said that strengthening of the democratic political structure is the answer to the absurd allegations made against the country.
Minister Dallas Alahapperuma said that after declaring 2011 as the year of the youth the UN requested from its member countries to carryout such experiments with regard to the youth. He said that the programme carried out on that request has created the largest and the most democratic Parliament compared to Youth Parliaments setup in other countries. The Inaugural debate of the Parliament was held this evening.
