New houses are being constructed for the people in the North who were displaced due to terrorism.
The housing project has been launched under the patronage of the Economic Development Ministry and the Army. The aim is to extend the programme to uplift the lives of the displaced people. The houses being constructed in the Walikamam North Divisional Secretariat area and Ilawali village will be handed over to the public before the end of this year. A group led by Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena inspected the constructions.
Meanwhile drinking water facilities were provided to several resettled villages in the North. The abandoned wells were cleared and pipe borne water was provided under the programme. Allocations for the programme have been made by the Water Resources Board and the Economic Development Ministry. Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena vested the projects in the public.
