Number of projects in the North vested in the public

Development is being ushered in for the people in the North along with the peace.

A number of development projects in Mandathiew have been vested in the public. Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that the people in the North should achieve economic prosperity, in order to enjoy the fruits of peace. Massive development projects are being launched to achieve this objective. The Minister explained that infrastructure such as highways; electricity, schools and hospitals are being developed. The Minister expressed these views at a meeting held at the Mandathiew Maha Vidyalaya after inaugurating several development projects in the area. The aim of the Mahinda Chintana policy is to strengthen individuals as well as families. A number of water supply schemes in Mandathiew, Sarasalei in Chavakachcheri, Valvetithurai and Point Pedro were handed over to the people. Measures are being taken to provide necessary facilities for the farmers as well as fishermen. Funds are being provided for the women to be self employed. Arrangements have also been made to provide employment for the youths in factories expected to be set up in the North. Large scale investors have been authorized to set up factories in the North. The largest factory will be constructed in Achchuweli. The Minister said that the development programme is being launched with a view to usher in peace for the future generation which was not enjoyed by two generations. The Government is committed to continuously carry out the development work despite obstacles. The Minister sought public support in this connection.
