President Rajapaksa has appealed to the Tamil Diaspora to spend funds wasted against the motherland for wellbeing of the innocent Tamil civilians of the North.

The President said they are very proud of the opportunity afforded to the people of the area to enjoy freedom and democracy after ending a 30 year old ruthless war. Every possible effort was being made to bring normality to their region and the entire country after this dreadful period. However, the President commented that some who are residing abroad without understanding this situation, were launching a vast campaign against the country. He said he was making a fervent appeal from them to visit areas of the North and divert their unnecessary expenditure incurred on campaigns against the country, to enrich the lives of the innocent civilians.

The President was speaking after launching work on the Pooneryn Regional Hospital Complex. The hospital will come up on a 15 acre block of land. Its estimated cost is 73.15 million rupees. The two storied building complex will have wards, an OPD, a labour room and official quarters for doctors and nurses. Addressing the function in Tamil, the President reminded the gathering that the Government was spending a colossal sum on hospitals in the North which were ravaged by the terrorists. He assured that his Government will develop all hospitals in the North in this manner.

Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne also expressed his views. Health Services Director of Kilinochchi Dr. Karthi Kesan made the welcome address.
