A fire which erupted within a train at the Kandy Railway Station has been brought under control.
The fire broke out at around 3.00 p.m. today in a train parked at the Railway Station. The fire spread to three nearby compartments. The Fire Brigade Unit of the Kandy Municipal Council succeeded in extinguishing the blaze. Four compartments were damaged as a result.
In the meantime a fire has also been reported from Namunukulakanda. Reports say that about 10 acres had been destroyed. The Badulla Police suspect that the fire may have been caused by firewood collectors or hunters.
