The Elections Commissioner said that all arrangements are in place to ensure the conduct of a free and fair poll.
Sufficient Police Officers as well as election staff have been deployed for all polling booths in the North as well as the South. Mahinda Deshapriya said that only voters, political party representatives, candidates and approved election monitors can enter the polling booths. It has been decided not to announce results of postal votes separately. Accordingly, the elections Commissioner was optimistic that the first result could be given at around 10.00 p.m. tomorrow.
He was confident of giving the first result at this time if anything extraordinary did not happen. He expressed optimism of releasing results of all the 65 Local Authorities by 6 a.m. the following day.
