The government has cancelled the licenses of 44 foreign employment agencies and suspended over 200 licenses during the last five years.
The government has informed parliament that the licenses had been cancelled due to irregularities and various malpractices by the foreign employment agencies.
These details were tabled in parliament by the Foreign Employment Promotion Ministry in response to an oral question posed by JVP parliamentarian Ajith Kumara.
The government has also stated that licenses of 233 foreign employment agencies have also been suspended.
Meanwhile, legal action has been instituted against 959 cases where various agencies had cheated money from people on the promise of granting them with foreign employment opportunities.
