The Government has emphasized that no power cuts will be imposed. The Ministry of Power and Energy said although the water levels in reservoirs affiliated to power plants have reached minimum levels, it is an obstruction to the supply of power. The water levels of the Castlereigh, Maussakele, Kotmale, Victoria, Randenigala and Samanala Wewa reservoirs have considerably declined. The Ministry noted that there is no truth in reports given by certain media that the Laksapana area was experiencing heavy rains. The sluice gates of Lakshapana Reservoir were opened by two inches to bring to normal the heavy pressure within the power plant and not to release excess water.

Minister Patalie Champika Ranawaka has instructed officials not to curtail power supplies as the Advanced Level Examination was nearing. The generation of thermal power has been increased as the generation of hydropower remains at a minimum level. The Ministry underscored the need to use electricity sparingly in the face of these developments. The public have been urged to minimize power consumption particularly from 6.00 to 10.00 p.m.
