A coalition of Columbia groups called for more attention today to appearance in trimming trees near overhead power lines.
SCE&G is engaging in “aggressive tree-cutting” that is destroying the canopy of trees in several neighborhoods, Ryan Nevius of Sustainable Midlands said.
“Overcutting unnecessarily takes away the appeal” of many areas for homeowners, said Mary Baskin Waters of Heathwood, head of the Columbia Council of Neighborhoods.
City officials and SCE&G are looking at a new pruning plan for after protests from residents last week.
Those protests led to a suspension in trimming since midday Thursday that is due to expire today but could be extended.
