A 63-year-old convicted sex offender faces charges of inappropriately touching two young girls he was caring for in his Lexington home, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department announced today.
John Shelby Wells, 63, of Bluff Ridge Road was arrested around 1:18 this morning and charged with two counts of performing a lewd act upon a child under the age of 16, Sheriff James Metts said.
Authorities allege Wells inappropriately touched two girls, ages 7 and 8, Metts said.
Wells was awaiting a bond hearing this afternoon at the Lexington County Detention Center.
The mothers of the two girls contacted the Sheriff’s Department July 8 after their daughters told them about the incidents, which allegedly happened earlier this month, Metts said.
