Blockage leads to overflow on Sunset Boulevard

A blockage today in a sewer line led to an overflow in the 4500 block of Sunset Boulevard, near Twelve Mile Creek, according to the town of Lexington.
The blockage allowed an estimated 100 gallons of sewage per minute to flow into a smaller dry creek leading into Twelve Mile Creek. Town officials couldn’t determine how long the overflow occurred, thus they couldn’t say how much sewage flowed out of the pipe.
The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control alerted the town about the overflow around noon after receiving a complaint about the odor.
The blockage was removed. Town workers sandbagged the small creek leading into Twelve Mile Creek, and sewage backed up behind the sandbags was pumped back into the sewer line, according to a town news release. From Staff Reports
