University lecturers warned to resort to trade union action once again if the government fails to honor its promises made last week.
The Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) told a press conference that the university lecturers stopped the trade union action hoping the government would honor its promise.
FUTA Spokesperson Dr. Mahim Mendia says that the lecturers have accepted the government’s proposed interim solution although it was not sufficient.
Therefore, he said the agreement reached between the FUTA and the Treasury officials needed to be implemented at the earliest.
Head of FUTA Prof. Nirmal Devasiri said the government will be given time until the next budget to fulfill its promises.
He said that if the government fails to act, the FUTA would be compelled to commence a massive trade union action island wide.
